How Long Do Edibles Take to Kick In?

Thirty minutes to two hours. That is the honest range, and the reason it is a range rather than a number is more useful to you than the number would be.

Why it is slower than smoking

When you smoke or vape, THC crosses into your bloodstream through your lungs almost immediately. That is why onset is measured in minutes.

An edible has to go through your digestive system first, then your liver. Your liver converts THC into a different compound, 11-hydroxy-THC, before it reaches your bloodstream in quantity. That conversion takes time, and it is also why an edible feels different from a joint at the same dose rather than just slower.

What moves the timing

Factor Effect on onset
Empty stomach Faster, often harder
Full meal, especially fats Slower, often smoother and longer
Fast metabolism Faster
Regular tolerance Less intensity, similar timing
Body weight and composition Varies by person
Extraction method No meaningful change

That last row surprises people. Live rosin, live resin and distillate all have to clear the same digestive path. Extraction changes flavour and compound profile. It does not change how long you wait.

The mistake almost everyone makes

You take a piece. Forty minutes pass. Nothing. You take another one.

Ninety minutes in, both of them arrive at once, and now you are somewhere you did not intend to be. This is the single most common way a good night goes sideways, and it is entirely avoidable.

Take one piece. Wait a full hour. Then decide. If you are new to edibles, take half a piece and wait the same hour. The dose is not going anywhere.

How long it lasts

Four to eight hours for most people, with the peak somewhere in the first two to four. Longer than inhaling, by a lot. If you have work in the morning, do the arithmetic backwards from when you need to be functional.

Dosing without guessing

Every Mother Puckers bag is 200mg Delta 9 split into 20 individually portioned pieces at 10mg each. That is deliberate. You are not breaking a chunk off something and estimating.

  • New to edibles. Half a piece, 5mg. Wait an hour.
  • Occasional. One piece, 10mg.
  • Regular tolerance. Two pieces, 20mg, still with an hour between decisions.

If you went too far

It is uncomfortable and it passes. Find somewhere quiet, drink water, eat something, and wait it out. Nobody has died from taking too much THC. It will feel long and then it will be over.

Picking for the time of day

Since you are waiting up to two hours regardless, pick the bag that matches where you want to end up.
